TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
During November 2006, our family was at our wits end. My eldest daughter who has been a heroin addict of the past three years was totally out of control to the point where she reverted to theft from her own parents to feed her addiction.
She had been to various rehabilitation centres without success, and had cost us in the region of R 300 000 since we started her treatment.
We contacted Charmaine at GiG who arranged for a councilor to visit us at home on the same day. During the discussion we realized that no treatment other than that based on the mercy of Jesus Christ, would be of any lasting value.
The contact details of Fremar Clinic in Rosebank were given to us by Charmaine, who after evaluating her case, though that committing her there would be the best route to follow. My daughter entered at her own free will. Although she only spent eight days at the facility, the experience of seeing what the result of drug abuse was on the other inmates opened her eyes sufficiently to change her mind set. This was one step beyond a cardboard box under a bridge. We believe that this experience was the right strategy at the opportune time.
Charmaine continued telephonic support right through to the present time, at her own expense.
My daughter has been clean for going on three months, and is currently holding a responsible job under direct care of a sponsor in Tzaneen.
GiG should get all our support, both financial and moral to continue their essential work. Their faith based therapy and total commitment to the ways of Jesus is the only true route to recovery.
